Fat Injections In The Face

Fat Transfer To The Face

Fat Injections in the faceAfter performing facial rejuvenation procedures for over 20 years, I have now found fat injections to be a wonderful adjunct to improve my results.  Not only does fat improve volume, but it appears to have a regenerating effect on tissue adjacent to where the fat is injected.  Fat contains “adult stem cells” that are believed to elaborate growth factors and other as yet not clearly defined cellular mediators.  Numerous anecdotal and a growing number of scientific reports now support this idea.  It is my clinical opinion that fat improves skin quality and further enhances my results.

It is important that the patient realizes that more bruising will occur with fat injections versus fillers such as Juvederm or Restylane.  This procedure can be done under local or general anesthesia.  The length of time that fat lasts is also not exactly known but it can last for years.

Because fat is taken from the abdomen, thighs, flanks, or buttocks, a nice improvement in those areas is also obtained.

Wrinkles At A Young Age

Advantages Of Botox At An Early Age

advantages of botox at a young ageMost of my patients think about using Botox in their mid to late 40’s or 50’s. This is the time facial wrinkles are quite prominent.  Even though Botox minimizes fine lines in the forehead, wrinkles at a young agein the upper nose and crows feet, these lines are now permanent. I have found that by injecting these facial wrinkles earlier in their aging process (early to mid 30’s) this will delay and possibly prevent the deep wrinkles we develop later in life.  By paralyzing those muscles early, our skin will continue to stay youthful. NeuroToxins (Botox, Dysport) temporarily paralyze facial muscles.  Some of my patients have very strong muscles which accentuate the aging process. This can cause a scowling or angry appearance between the eyebrows and deep forehead wrinkles.  When I see a patient in their 30’s who have these types of muscles, I strongly suggest Botox for the reasons mentioned. This treatment plan may also delay fillers for the prominent lines that develop.  Please contact my practice with any questions or to schedule a complimentary consultation.

Moles and Skin Cancer

Early Detection of Skin Cancer May Save Your Life!

moles and skin cancerSkin cancer today is quite prevalent. We are all exposed constantly to the sun. Many of us as teenagers and adults enjoy the benefits of a body that is tan and radiant. However, the sun damages our skin from its ultraviolet radiation and can cause skin cancer.

Black/brown lesions with irregular borders are suspicious for early cancer. Lesions that change in color or size are also of concern. When these types of lesions are seen, a biopsy is required. This is a simple procedure performed in the office. If the biopsy returns atypia, a excision of the area will be necessary. By early detection, lives may be saved and deformity minimized.

Breast Lift Scarring

How much scarring will I have with my breast lift?

breast liftWomen who have had children commonly develop some sagginess to their breasts. This can also occur genetically and with age. The most common concern in these women is to reestablish upper breast fullness by performing the breast lift procedure.

To uplift and give fullness to a woman’s breast, an implant is required as well as repositioning her breast tissue. The skin is then tightened around her new breast shape. There are 3 types of incisions to uplift (mastopexy) a woman’s breast. These include the periareolar, vertical or horizontal T (at inframammary crease) incisions. Depending on the patients desires, her anatomy, and the amount of lift and shaping that is necessary, one or 2 types of incisions will be made.

It is important to realize that these breast lift scars fade well over a years time. I have found women to be extremely pleased with their elevated breasts and reconstructed upper breast fullness. These women believe minimal scarring involved to achieve their goals is quite acceptable.

Facelift Scars

Facelift scars, can they be seen?

facelift scarsOne of the greatest concerns from my patients inquiring about facial rejuvenation are the scars. The incisions that are used in a facelift are placed in the natural folds of the ear and hairline. As a result, there incisions heal beautifully and in most cases are barely visible. It is rare that anyone can see these scars since they blend so naturally. Following surgery, makeup is used to cover these incisions for 1 month while they are healing.
