One of the most exciting developments in recent years has been the advancement of laser treatments for cosmetic purposes. The use of lasers has allowed for treatment options that once were impossible to become widely available. Dr. Wald uses an erbium yag laser called the Sciton® laser to treat skin conditions.

Laser treatments are used to treat scars, skin discoloration, loose or lax skin, and wrinkles.

Is Skin Resurfacing Right For Me?

Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their skin may be interested in laser treatments. Laser treatments can target areas with undesired characteristics with pinpoint accuracy, giving patients the freedom to address specific concerns without undergoing a more invasive procedure. Laser treatments are most often used to treat scar tissue and wrinkles but may treat other conditions. Consult with Dr. Wald to determine if your desires can be met with a laser skin treatment.

What Is Covered During My Laser Treatment Consultation?

During your consultation, Dr. Wald will observe the areas you want to be treated, and recommend a specific procedure (or series of procedures) that will allow you to achieve your aesthetic goals. He will then explain each procedure’s details to ensure you understand how your personalized operation will occur. Once this has been explained to you (and any questions you have are answered), your personalized laser treatment cost will be addressed.

What Is Laser Resurfacing?

A laser skin treatment is a non-invasive procedure that removes unsightly aspects of a patient’s skin. It can be used to address issues such as scars, skin discoloration, and more. By obliterating these cells through non-invasive means, the treatment is not only fast but easy to recover from as well.

Laser treatment is often used as an alternative to chemical peels.

How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?

At a fundamental level, laser treatments work by destroying skin cells with undesired traits. By doing this, new skin cells grow to replace the destroyed cells, resulting in a healthier and more youthful appearance.

Treatment will begin with a local anesthetic injection to ensure the patient remains comfortable during the procedure. The targeted area is defined before Dr. Wald uses a laser emitter to burn off the upper layers of skin. The laser system is highly accurate and can target even tiny imperfections with near-perfect accuracy.

How Long Is My Laser Treatment Recovery in Orange County?

Most patients will experience symptoms comparable to a sunburn in the treated area(s) for one to two weeks. After this point, the older skin layer will peel away, revealing new younger-looking skin without the targeted imperfections. Most patients find their new skin to be tender for two to three weeks after the peeling occurs. During this period, Dr. Wald advises keeping the treated area out of direct sunlight to the degree possible, as the new skin will be fragile and sensitive.

Minor redness and similar discoloration may persist for up to three months, but oil-free makeup can be used to conceal this after the new skin strengthens.

When Will I See My Skin Resurfacing Results?

The laser treatment’s initial results will be visible within one to two weeks as new skin surfaces, and older layers flake away. Final results should be visible within three to six months. Most patients only require a single laser treatment, though some conditions with deeper causes may require a second treatment later.

How Much Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost in Orange County?

The cost of laser skin resurfacing can vary but will almost always be cheaper than full-scale cosmetic surgeries. Therefore, a skin resurfacing treatment may be an attractive option for patients seeking an effective and low-cost solution to wrinkles, fine lines, and similar cosmetic concerns.
